i was simon today
simon with a guitar
simon twanging in the concrete church
while the lovers wove toward their bow
their kiss of the cross
i was asked to sing the air electric
with a steel twang of god
do you know CRUX FIDELIS?
if you do you must know
it is a very enchanting melody
those ancient monks
sat around enjoying the vocalizations of beauty
echoes in stone churches
the deed is done basically
god is dead
we killed him
and he is bound now
to trump us
at least leave us honestly
baffled with the burgeoning world
if a sufficient number of human beings
learn to live beyond
anger and violence
if we learn to face the
human reality with compassion
then we have a chance
people
then we have a chance
we sang the beatitudes again today
epistemological chanting
for no other purpose than to do it
mankind suffers blind
without beauty

i remember well
the concrete church
Fr. Matthew Rios used a picture of it,
the altar, the hanging cross,
in one of his presentations last weekend
sing simon, sing
help me to remember this day
the next time i am faced with a cross
