...something is amiss or out of place
when mice with wings can wear a human face
from the Bat by
-t roethke
from out of a crack in the wall
or the tile above my head
a bat crept this morning
looking rather groggy
it seemed like it had a destiny
and it was only loosely
connected to what i'm doing today
so i let it be
i think now it has
pulled itself out the door
good luck

i found a bat in my room as a kid once
clinging to the inside of the window screen
it was a bit frightening for me at the time
you seem to have handled it with aplomb
here's to the 11 faithful apostles
the full poem
the bat
By day the bat is cousin to the mouse.
He likes the attic of an aging house.
His fingers make a hat about his head.
His pulse beat is so slow we think him dead.
He loops in crazy figures half the night
Among the trees that face the corner light.
But when he brushes up against a screen,
We are afraid of what our eyes have seen:
For something is amiss or out of place
When mice with wings can wear a human face.
it's nice to see
those two lines in context
sounds like the poet
had the same reaction i did
now that we have arrived
at the 12th day of christmas
i find myself wondering
just what ARE the 12 points of doctrine?
i'm not trying to give you
a blogging assignment
i could google it myself
if my curiosity gets strong enough
basically it jsut follows teh
nicean creed
1 one father
2 (one begotten son
incarnation)
3 passion death resurrection
4 the second coming
5 eternal kingdom
6 holy spirit
7 proceeds from father and son (?)
8 spoke through the prophets
9 one catholic
10 apostolic church
11 forgivenes of sins
12 our resurrection
that's off the top of my head
now it's epiphany
peace
jh
just the
maybe it's more the apostles ceed
i don't know
we're needy
i suppose theologies have been built upon the twelve principles whatever they are
jh
well these 12 sound pretty standard to me
whether they are from the nicene
or apostle's creed
i'm impressed you rattled them off
off the top of your head
i always have to
mumble my way through the creed
listening to the person next to me
at valyermo there was a woman behind me
who had a booming voice
which at first irritated me
but when we got to the creed
i was grateful to be able to
follow her lead
