presentation

the penultimate goal in fly fishing
has to do with presentation
with what sort of delicacy can you
place the fly into the ripple at
the mouth of a pool
and let it float into the pool

one then could speak of ultimate
and
meta-ultimate goals

yesterday i was conscious of a deepening
of my appreciation for the extended consciousness
of the christmas celebration
the nativity celebration in the Roman Catholic way
we were reminded in the liturgies of the Feast of Presentation
that Jesus was formed in the womb of judaism as much as in the womb of Mary
the Feast uses the Common of Mary to accentuate her "purification"
a ritual practice that was mandatory for Jewish women after giving birth

for some reason i had it in my mind that
this feast usurped the Feast of Circumcision
and it became clear to me that in fact
the older practice coincided perfectly with
jewish practice the Feast of Circumcision was held
on January 1
now however we celebrate
Mary the Mother of God
on that day
and the old CANDLEMAS tradition then
retains it's relevance as an "echo"
of the light that has come into the world

it is sort of complicated
we don't think of birth in these terms so much anymore
Advent - the 9th month of pregnancy
christmas day - nativity - birth
8 days after - circumcision
i wonder does our consciousness about a deity
change if we do not somehow honor the fact
that he had a penis (one presumes he still does)
epiphany on the evening of the 12th day
the wise men arriving at twilight i suppose
after 40 days - jesus is presented honored by
hannah and simeon
and Mary is made righteous in the Law

and life goes on

it is often more in the presentation of things
than anything else
