the friend song ( for ellen k)
your life is the portal
through which i walk
whenever
i make my way back home
something immortal
that i tap into
strong
as the river does flow
more than you'll ever know
strong as the river does flow
*
the sound of your voice
is forever in my ear
a song
at the core of my heart
your laughter is music
that i so long to hear
strong
as the winter wind does blow
more than you'll ever know
strong as the winter wind does blow
*
you've given me refuge
from life's crazy storms
a gift
that is brighter than the snow
my life would be darker
without your eyes to see
strong
as the seed does grow
more than you'll ever know
strong as the seed does grow
*
more than you'll ever know
strong as the river does flow

wow
this is really beautiful
i like the nature references
the strength of a river
of the winter wind
of the growing seed
i picture you
making your way
across the snowy plains
when i read the second and third verses
such great images you present
for the strength that can lie
within a human soul
and can be offered to another
in friendship
this is indeed
a song that anyone
could sing for a friend
i can't wait to learn it
I rarely write songs, but decided to see if I could come up with one. This one is based on We Are The World, by Michael Jackson.
We are the 3rd world
We have no economy
So just start giving
We are the 3rd world
We are their children
Give us your money
So we can start living
(Our parents don't have any)
So just start giving
A choice was made for us
We were born into a world
Without tea and crumpets
It's time for you to make my day
So just start giving!
We are the 3rd world
Only you can save our lives
So just start giving!
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
There's no hope at all
No freedom of speech
No rule of law
No private property
We are the 3rd world
We are their children
So just start giving!
There's a choice we didn't make
And you have to save our lives
So there'll be even more of us
So just start giving!
NB: JH, that's not my first attempt at a folk song, but it's probably my best. Do you think you would be able to sing it, and give it a chance on one of your albums? You never know, it might be a hit, and we can split the profits 50-50, and donate them to our favorite charities.
not bad kirby
not bad at all
you "splooge" the
sentiment
even though your lyrics
leave much to be desired by way of
biblically based empathy
still they resonate a certain
je ne sais quoi
i think the lyrics might work better with a world beat beat
something sort of funky and primitive and african
thanks for the purely zaney appearance here
you don't know what that means to me
i could actally see a bunch of desperate looking kids learning the refrain in calcutta
and singing it with malnuourished kids in mogadishu
and bahia
maybe we could get a whole thing going where everything is sung in realtime and recorded around the world and promise everyone free lunches after the performance
and maybe some health care to go along with the free lunch

Thanks for these ideas! We are the world! The barely living!
