humility and prayer just another sunday

what strange notions
who on god's green earth goes about
with notions of humility and
prayer in his thoughts

is it only a story of
what ever we see?

odd that there should be some amongst us
who actually speak to saints
and live as though they are being heard

that some might in fact be praying
while i am busy
testing the patience of god once again

the only beatitude we need
is
blessed are the poor in spirit

to know of ones need is
to have a stake in the heavenly treasure

just another sunday

amen

Sunday was interesting in Crestline. Not just another Sunday. The roads up to Crestline were still only open to residents, and our interim pastor lives in Claremont, so the elders planned and orchestrated the service. There was no sermon, but the rest of the service followed the regular order of worship--welcome and announcements, lighting of candles, opening hymn, prayer of confession and pardon, another hymn, sharing of praise reports and prayer requests from the congregation, prayer--ending with the Lord's prayer, another hymn, collection of the offering, singing of tghe doxology, scripture readings, [here's where the sermon would normally be], another hymn, an affirmation of faith, and a benediction. OK, maybe it was just another Sunday after all. Except, I just remembered, there was an AP reporter and photographer there, doing a story on our poor little church, coming together to worship after the fires, even though our pastor could not make it up the hill. I found it a little odd that the photographer wandered up to the front of the church during the scripture reading to take pictures of the congregation.

anyway, thanks for putting in a good word for me to china, over on my blog.

i like the wheelbarrow poem too
