there are places that you come to
you think
i could walk away
i could limit my freedom
to the vast expanse before me
take only enough water
to get to the next stream

in the sumptuous silence of god
we weep prayer

no more nobility
only the cowering knowledge
that we are indeed
small creatures

what better place to work out your anxiety
or everyone elses for that matter

there
where the wind cares not a wit
for your wisdom

this i wrote in response to a photo
of northern nevada - a landscape-
i saw on the blog of friend

beautiful photo
and poem

we weep prayer

prayer
is that the word
for that wordless ache
that a landscape can inspire?

yes sally

it brought me to tears in northern montana
near the border
looking into glacier park from the road near babb
sunlight breaking through the clouds in visible streams
snow having dusted the peaks
the aspens in the ravines as gold as gold can be

i broke
and the ache lightened up a bit
