yoga knowledge

i've turned to yoga
for some relief from
persistant ache and pain

a simple form introduced to me
by a friend a rancher in montana
the
sun salutations
a cycle of stretches and breathing

since beginning this i have experienced
considerable relief in my lower back
and i know this
it is immediate knowledge

also my general posture seems to have improved

the other day i went through the cycle twice
and it was a strange stimulant
i was very awake that night
could not sleep
had energy reserves
what was it
it was the stretching
and i know this

i heard parts of my body release tension
i felt ligaments and muscles stretch
and the overall physical sense of fairly well being
returned to me and my mind
and i am not a little amazed

for right now i do not wish to
advance any further in yoga
i am content to do the sun salutations
even on cloudy days like today

next week however i am slated to attend a class
and practice with a yoga instructor
which may be a good thing
for my growing understanding

i could read books
and i probably will
and then i will know more

what i realise from an empistemological point of view
is that i existed in my mind within a box of suspicion
and this is largely because of a book i read years ago
"THE LOTUS AND THE ROBOT"
(and i think i should reread it)
wherein arthur koestler
weighs in rather negatively about the
possibility of yoga being of some beneficial
value in western culture

his thesis includes the observation that
the real practices of yoga have little to do with
feeling better about oneself in the world
originally the postures and exercises were
pointed toward something completely different

that the practice involves some rather immediate
and discernible health benefits
is attested by the hundreds of thousands of people
in USA who practice yoga for its therapeutic value

i'm content to know something
about the therapeutic value

as they say these days

it works for me

I need to try something like this. I'm a very lazy person so already at only age 31 I experience aches and pains throughout my body. Yoga might help. My only problem is I'm too self-conscious to attend a class where there are others around. So I'd have to learn the moves on the Internet, maybe by watching YouTube or something.

i've begun with a few postures shown me by a friend
and then simply following the sun salutation cycle
i'm a little self conscious as well when it comes to classes about this stuff
the last time i tried i was completely distracted by how beautiful the teacher looked in stretch lycra
now i do something simple on my own
but maybe i will advance some i don't know
i'm still wondering about how important it is
i must say the reuslts after the sun salutation cycle of stretches have been impressive at least interms of my self awareness and body pain
when the student is ready the teacher will appear

I do not know the veracity of this statement, but I've heard it said that Yoga is great for quick weight loss. I am not certain just how because Yoga is very slow.

I need to find out, though, because I could shed a few pounds.

yoga people all tend to be pretty lean as far as i can see
and that would appear to be a good thing
yesterday i experienced sensations of my body opening up it was a bit painful but ultimately i was breathing easier and i felt better in the mind in the head

i think large women are generally beautiful
i like the women of peter paul reubens

i love the opulent maternal look
i'm sorry
i'm just that way
the modern display of femininity in the media is grotesque
the things women are doing to their bodies these days
phew
makes a poor monks mind spin

you'll get it right
you're looking for truth
breathe deep
]welcome the stranger with tea[

peace

A British woman writer whose name I forget said that yoga invited demons to inhabit your body.

I don't know if it's true.

I have a bad back lately. Sudden stabbing pains.

Getting enough sleep helps.

In Seattle there was a French back doctor who didn't think anybody should ever exercise because it creates big muscles that are like vines on a building and they crush your skeleton down to powder.

Lazy French people, or true?

Hard to know.

Whatever works, I think, is the right approach!

i think yoga helps to bring the body arouond to a correct posture and a sort of lightness
maybe in the advanced practice the whole thing just becomes the person i don't know

it is far more attractive than the machines people are using and the preoccupation with weight loss and perfect figures

the object at least as it is stated in american yoga centers is one more defined by spiritual well being than by physical perfection althouogh i think somehow the physical co-ordination with the spiritual goal makes sense to me now more than it did before

i'm a little suspicious of the individualism that creeps into spiritual practice...this unending search for self that seems to become self indulgence

if compassion is genuinely aroused within the practice i think it has to be good

at least a person is having to acknowledge a relationship with everyone...the competition aspect is removed

i'm really liking the stretching

go yoga

i salute the sun
who comes forth
like a bridegroom
coming from his tent
rejoicing like a champion
to run his course

live and breathe
and praise the lord
